Feel'in The Bern

To my parent's generation, everything that they were told was wrong is happening, and for my generation everything we grew to understand as possible seems to be at our finger tips. My parents worry about this new guy, who's actual been in politics and on the far left for longer than I've been on this Earth. Nevertheless, to them, Bernie Sanders is a socialist and socialism has been to their generation the epitome of evil and the disruption of what our government and constitution hopes to uphold. Like most people my parents do not live under a rock, but they remain staunch Independents, and that is their right. They see socialism as an overwhelmingly large government that will consume private property, worth, and the very freedoms that make up our constitution. I agree with that assessment.

However, Bernie Sanders is not a socialist, he is a democratic socialist, and it is important to characterize him with two words, just as it is important to pay attention to both the inseam and waist when buying men's pants. Bernie believes in the institution of the democratic process, but he is for a bigger government, most liberals are, as I do. We have many administrative offices and platforms, like Social Security, Welfare, Veterans Affairs, and so on that were established and continue to be funded and ran by the federal government. Bernie plans to add more to facilitate universal healthcare and free college.

To my generation, the generation of Harry Potter, equality, inclusion, and acceptance Bernie Sanders is our Dumbledore. He is the guy standing up for the underfunded, you and I, the average-joe, with little bank accounts, and a desire to raise our families as our Grandparents did after the Second World War, with education, affordable housing, and the right to choose our paths.

Beyond anything else, the reason why I am voting for Bernie Sanders is that I believe our government is broken. The freedom of organizations, companies, and billionaires to lobby their views and opinions to candidates throughout the system as created an indentured class of politicians. They owe their positions to the wealthy, and you can go on for as long as you like that they feel no obligations, and you can lie and say that there are no kickbacks or favors in our government, but the truth is that there are political obligations, fundraising is necessary, and money talks. Our constitution is to serve all its people, not a few on top and certainly not the business' that incorporate the economic greed that is rampant across our country.

Bernie is the guy that hopes to change that; he wants a political revolution for us ALL, and it only takes one spark to ignite a revolution that could change and strengthen our Democracy.

Regardless of who you go out to vote for, just remember that it is a right and a privilege that people have fought and died for to allow you the right to vote in the first place. So get up off you butt and get out there and vote. If you can't get out remember you can always request an absentee ballot. Vote not just because you can, but because the whole point of democracy is that your opinion matters!
