Not a Case of Discrimination

Image
It is interesting how insane the general public has become over the past decade. Let me just offer some clarification on recent events that one-day history will judge us harshly on. No, it's not discrimination when your church is closed down as a result of a health order. Discrimination is when because of the color of someone's skin they must sit in a less desirable seat on the bus, or someone is called a Jihadist because they wear the hijab, or when a political candidate and his base declare all Latin American individuals to be rapists and murders, or when a man that is simply taking a jog is gunned down by two men while others watch and do nothing and film it on their cell phones. Discrimination is a big issue in the United States. No qualms from me there, but again, health orders closing down your church is NOT Discrimination. Discrimination happens every day in reality, and this cry wolf scenario is getting a bit old to say the least. Liberties are not being impeded u

Global Pandemic As A Mom

It has been 70 days since we officially went into "lockdown." The Governor here in Ohio called it "stay at home" orders, but it all amounts to the same thing. The week leading up to the lockdown was, even in hindsight, a bit surreal to think about. We were essentially inundated with all this information and I was beginning to get anxious. My parents were on the other side of the fence, both thinking the media must be making a mountain out of a molehill, and I, an avid "apocalyptic" novel reader and fan of doomsday scenarios started to see a sweeping correlation between reality and the fiction of the various novels I have read over the years. Being the sole adult that could do anything about it in our household made me nervous and I made it my mission to inhale all the information I could about the possibility of a Pandemic. At the beginning of March we just seemed to be spiraling in this inevitable global soap opera.  On the 1 st, the US recorded its fi

Perspective: COVID-19

For many people this virus is an elusive beast the media keeps blaring at us, we haven't seen it beyond the visuals of our screens and yet we fear it. It's real, it's killing, and unfortunately, 2/3 people (including me) in my house are lumped into the "immuno-compromised" bracket of the population.  That's okay, we listen and do what we need to do, but when others threaten my safety and the safety of my family I'm filled with that kind of anxiety that just does not pass. Now, the rationale person listens to the weather in the morning and prepares their umbrella, parka, galoshes, sandals, or whatever the day might necessitate. Then there's the other end of the stick, that hear it's going to rain and still, they wear what they would have worn regardless and hope for the best or just say "Fuck it" and move forward. I am the first, I prepare to a point where it might seem insane to others. I live in Ohio, I have a rational leader in th
